FEMINITY IN MOTION

20250615_1322_WebStyleStory_DSC01189.jpg

Femininity in Motion explores the ephemerality of dance and its translation into lasting form. The work questions the impact of collective and individual consciousness role on the cultural interpretations of femininity. How can it be embodied, shared, and transformed through movement

The piece takes shape as two sculptures created from the improvised gestures of five dancers. Using virtual reality motion-capture technology, each dancer’s interpretation of femininity was recorded as suspended digital forms. These datasets were then translated from virtual space into material form through 3D printing, data visualization, and advanced fabrication techniques. The final works were finished with custom gold chrome plating, bridging the intangible fluidity of dance with the tactile presence of sculpture.

One sculpture captures the collective gestures of four dancers, while the other represents the unique expression of a single performer. Together, they symbolize the duality of shared and individual consciousness, preserving traces of performance that can never be repeated.

Through this process, Femininity in Motion blurs the boundaries between dance, technology, and materiality. It captures not only the gestures of the body, but also the imaginaries of femininity as they move between cultural memory, collective experience, and sculptural permanence.
